Anti-tank missile system (ATMS) is one of the most effective infantry antitank weapons that have the ability to be installed on IFV and APC fighting vehicles, have the battle equipment capable of hitting armoured targets.

ATMS “Bar’er” designed by SE “Luch” is intended for hitting of movable and stationary tanks and other modern movable and stationary armoured objects that have combined spaced or solid armour, including armour with dynamic protection, also low-sized targets of pillbox, earth-and-timber bunker, tank in a trench, light-armoured object of IFV type and helicopters.

ATMS “Bar’er” is installed on fighting vehicles equipped with “Shkval” combat modules and used for replacement of standard “Konkurs” ATMS installed on the fighting vehicles.

ATMS “Bar’er” possess characteristics that meet the international standards and, especially, at the main characteristic for missiles with hollow-charge firing part – thickness of pierced armour. ATMS “Bar’er” is high-tech and is in serial production on Ukrainian manufacturing facilities.

Modern level of ATMS “Bar’er” technical characteristics comparably to ATMS “Konkurs” is provided with implementation of perspective technical solutions’ succession, such as:

-        Semiautomatic guiding laser system with improved interference protection from enemy jamming;

-        Tandem hollow-charge firing part that provides enhanced armour-piercing capabilities and a possibility to hit all the modern tanks, including those with dynamic protection;

-        Modern element base and digital processing that provides higher communication security due to low-level transmission signals;

-        Time of shot preparation, not more than 1-1,5 sec.;

-        Increased weight of booster and cruise engines’ charges provides higher firing range.

Technical characteristics of “Konkurs” and “Bar’er” ATMSs are given in the comparison table:

  1. Missile in launcher RK-2
  2. Guided missile R-2

Missile in launcher and transport RK-2 container consists of anti-tank guided R-2 missile, booster engine and launcher and transport container intended for keeping, transporting and missile launching.

Anti-tank guided R-2 missile consists of battle part, cruise engine and instrument unit.

Guidance unit contains laser information field generator and TV visual channel.

“Bar’er” anti-tank system is recommended to use for:

1)      Replacement of  old “Konkurs” ATMSs installed on:

-   BMP-1M and BTR-3E, supplied with “Shkval” combat module;

-   BMP-2;

-   9P148 Fighting vehicles

-   Fighting vehicles to be supplied with “Shtorm” combat modules;

2)      Replacement of old 9M114 ATGM, installed on 9P149 fighting vehicles (“Shturm-S” system).

Ukraine provides closed-cycle manufacturing of these items and has appropriate manufacturing and testing capabilities.
