From February 25-th to 27-th, the state-owned company “SpetsTechnoExport”, which is part of the State Concern “Ukroboronprom”, presented new Ukrainian UAV systems to the UAE market during the UMEX-2018 specialized exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
For once, “SpetsTechnoExport” demonstrated two systems at first time: tactical unmanned aerial system PD-1 with a vertical takeoff system and high precision loitering UAV “RAM”. Also, such upgraded systems as UAV "Spectator", UAV "Observer-S", drone PC-1, gyro-stabilized gimbals as well as anti UAV defence system Bukovel-mini were presented.
A great deal of interest in the Ukrainian defence industry has been confirmed by a series of meetings and negotiations with the top UAE leadership in the Ukrainian pavilion. Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan - Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi - Minister of State for Defense, Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi - Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Maj. Gen. Saleh Mohammed Al-Ameri - chief of Land Forces got detailed acquaintance with the presented Ukrainian developments.
The “SpetsTechnoExport” top-management discussed with the UAE leadership the issue of establishing cooperation on the delivery of Ukrainian UAV systems and countermeasure systems, as well as the issue of their joint production in the territory of the UAE. Also, during the exhibition number of negotiations with potential customers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Kuwait, Morocco, Indonesia were held.
Pavlo Barbul, CEO of “SpetsTechnoExport”, said: “The top leadership of the UAE has confirmed that the greatest advantage of Ukrainian developments is that our systems are already being supplied to various defence departments of our state and received positive feedback from their use. Agreed agreements have shown that the work of our developers is not useless and unprofitable. A quality and ready-to-use product are always interesting to partners in the international defence technologies market”.
Ukrainian companies are also interested in working closely with the UAE. The market for unmanned aircraft of the GCC countries, according to the average estimates, will reach 1.5 billion US dollars by the year 2022. In general, during the period 2018-2024, the annual growth rate of the UAV fleet in the Middle East is projected at 30%. Defensive UAVs will provide the largest share of this increase, as the armed forces are increasingly using such systems for their own purposes.
